About Imon Banerjee

I am currently serving as an Associate Professor at Mayo Clinic and affiliated faculty at Arizona State University. I lead the Mayo Clinic Arizona AI Advanced Innovation Hub, where I focus on advancing artificial intelligence applications in healthcare. From 2019 to 2021, I worked as an Assistant Professor at Emory University School of Medicine. Prior to that, I held an Instructor position at Stanford University with joint affiliations in the Departments of Radiology and Biomedical Data Science.My overarching research goal is to bridge the gap between human understanding of unstructured medical data—such as clinical narratives and medical images—and machine interpretability, to enable the development of next-generation, generalizable predictive models for clinical decision-making. My current work centers on analyzing unstructured medical data and integrating multisource datasets from diverse healthcare systems to build robust predictive models. I currently lead multiple federally funded projects and supervise nine doctoral students.I have a strong foundation in Artificial Intelligence and Data Mining, with peer-reviewed publications in areas including multimodal clinical data analysis (e.g, images, 3D models, and clinical reports), computational debiasing (both adversarial and causal), and vision-language models. My academic training and practical experience span core areas of computer science such as computer vision, deep learning, natural language processing, and software development.Competencies: Medical image analysis, Natural Language Processing (NLP), deep learning, machine learning, 3D data analysis, LLM, VLM.
