Mitigation of Atmospheric Impairments GroupInstitute of Communications and Navigation | Optical Satellite Links Department• Numerically modelled and then constructed multiple pre-distortion adaptive optics systems for optical feeder links using commercial/custom optics, optomechanics, actuated mirrors, and infrared detectors, and integrated these setups with 80-cm and 1-m telescopes• Led measurement campaigns to characterize various pre-distortion adaptive optics and optical communication systems via bidirectional 6.6-km and 10-km terrestrial, 600-km low-Earth orbit, and geostationary orbit free-space optical communication links• Achieved the lowest (world-record) level of optical power required to maintain a bidirectional free-space optical communication link with a geostationary satellite• Assisted in integrating a 30-W sodium laser guide star system to investigate further performance improvements of a pre-distortion adaptive optics system in strong atmospheric turbulence conditions• Contributed to the development of a Python based end-to-end adaptive optics and light propagation simulation package to optimize the performance of low-/mid-Earth and geostationary orbit free-space optical communication links that employ pre-distortion adaptive optics systems
