ABOUT ILIANA HAGENAH
Iliana Hagenah is an award-winning producer for Al Jazeera, based in Washington, DC. As a Somali-American, she draws on the layers of her identity to inform her perspective on the world, with a focus on human rights, international politics, voting rights, and recently reporting extensively on Palestinian voices in Gaza. She covered voter suppression in Tennessee and the South during the 2020 elections. Iliana also freelances for a variety of outlets, including CBS News, Foreign Policy Magazine, Al Jazeera, Elle Magazine, and Scalawag Magazine, covering both domestic and international stories. At CBS, she was part of the team that launched the network\'s morning show for its streaming service and served as an Assignment Editor for the International Desk. During her time at the BBC, she produced several experimental short-form videos for the English, Arabic, and Persian services. She has completed two fellowships with IWMF—the Gwen Ifill Fellowship and the Lauren Brown Fellowship—as well as a fellowship and grant with The GroundTruth Project, where she focused on democracy and voting rights. She is a mentor for the National Press Foundation\'s \"Widening the Pipeline\" Fellowship and NABJ\'s Urban Journalism Workshop.
