ABOUT ILEANA ACOSTA
I am a University of Florida alumna with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and a minor in Nutritional Sciences. I was involved in parasitology research for over 3 years and received recognition for my work, including a microbiology award at the national ABRCMS 2020 conference. I also graduated from UF with my Masters in Public Health with a concentration in Social and Behavioral Sciences, and received my Certification in Public Health (CPH) in the summer of 2023.I was a virtual Biology and Chemistry tutor specialist at Santa Fe College. I am passionate about teaching science and health to young adults, in hopes of engaging more individuals in STEM and healthcare related fields. During my time as an MPH candidate, I mentored undergraduates interested in Public Health and Health Professions through the Community-Health Oriented Mentorship Program (CHOMP) at the University of Florida. I also currently serve my community as a health educator through the non-profit organization Girls Health Ed. This public health initiative aims to educate girls and young women in marginalized and underserved populations about female health, good relationships, and reproductive wellness. Lastly, I worked at Baptist Hospital’s Emergency Department as the Chief Medical Scribe.
