ABOUT ILARIA VIGLIAROLO

I am an archaeologist specializing in the study of human osteological remains from archaeological contexts. I am listed in the Italian Ministry of Culture’s National Register of Cultural Heritage Professionals (Archaeologist and Physical Anthropologist – Level I). I obtained my degree from the University of Pisa, followed by a Postgraduate Specialization in Archaeological Heritage at the University of Bari Aldo Moro, and a PhD from the University of Foggia within the program Economics, Culture, Environment: Economic and Humanistic Sciences for Territorial Development. My research focuses on the recovery, analysis, and interpretation of human skeletal remains, aiming to reconstruct the biological profiles of past populations, their demographic dynamics, health conditions, and occupational activities. My work includes macroscopic, morphological, and anthropometric analyses, the study of pathologies and occupational or nutritional stress markers, as well as the application of chemical and biomolecular approaches, including trace element analysis, stable isotopes, and dental calculus analysis.I collaborate on archaeological excavations and bioarchaeological research projects with heritage protection and research institutions, including Italian heritage authorities and national institutes, contributing to the reconstruction of subsistence strategies and living conditions of past human populations.
