About Ilana Shire

Hi! My name is Ilana Shire and I am certified to teach ELA to grades 7-12 in New York State. I graduated from the Hunter College School of Education with a Master’s Degree in Adolescent English Education, as well as received a B.S. from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications in Television, Radio, and Film with a minor in English at Syracuse University in 2020. I chose to pursue a career in teaching English because I am passionate about working with children and adolescents, and English Language Arts. As a teacher, I am committed to working with diverse learners in order to encourage a love of learning, English literature, and language; while challenging them to grow into self-driven and intelligent young adults.

   Co-teach two sections of 7th grade ICT Humanities classes at a public NYC Middle School-Co-plan varied English and Social Studies lessons that engage and support a wide range of learners-Attend regular IEP meetings as a general education representative to provide updates on student progress that will support their individualized education plan goals-Facilitate weekly Independent Reading, Lab, Advisory, and Elective classes-Collaborate with my co-teacher and the 7th grade Humanities team to align our curriculum and share future plans/curricular goals for the year
