Beginning with the research for my dissertation I have been a student of brain power. Marian Diamond’s research showed increased complexity of dendrites as a function of experience. Adding talk & touch, rats lived 50% longer WITH continued brain gains. She believed that humans could derive the same benefits at any age. Neuroplasticity is the ability of the brain to change, for better or for worse. Neuroscientists research how humans can build better brains. In a recent random controlled trial with 468 subjects aged 65 to 97, speed of processing increased 131%, memory gains were equivalent to approximately 10 years of improvement in memory, AND 75% of the subjects reported positive benefits in daily living.
