ABOUT IBRAHIM SABLABAN
Dr. Sablaban is a dual boarded psychiatrist and addiction medicine physician working in acute care and consultation. With expertise in mood disorders, psychosis and substance use disorders he directs an academic service managing a range treatment refractory disorders and serious mental illness. He is also an educator, with clinical faculty positions at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine, Michigan State University and Wayne State University- heavily involved in teaching and curriculum development. He serves as director of education at Metropolitan Behavioral Health and the associate program director of the Corewell Health Psychiatry Residency Training program. Over the years he has received multiple awards for academic and clinical work including the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry’s Regional Award, the Henry Ford Alumni Peter G Coggan Teaching Award, as well as awards and commendations from trainees and students.Community outreach continues to be a large part of his work - having served as the psychiatry liaison for the Islamic Center of Detroit since 2017, and regularly interfacing with local institutions in southeast Michigan about various mental health-based topics. He has been an advocate for addressing addictive diseases in recent years, both through clinical work and interfacing with mosques, community and national organizations. He joined the National Board of Directors of American Muslim Health Professionals (AMHP) in late 2022, where he continues to seek to address issues pertaining to health inequity, the public health sector and the opioid epidemic in particular.
