I lead the ASME Electric Human-Powered Vehicle (EHPV) Team at NC State, where we are engineering a fully custom monocoque hybrid trike to compete in an annual competition against other teams from around the country, where metrics such as speed, endurance, safety, design, and innovation are scored and judged. My responsibilities as the team captain include planning, budgeting, design direction, team coordination, and overseeing/participating in all technical aspects of the vehicle from design to manufacture. I am involved in all the subsystems, which includes developing designs, revising/improving existing designs, developing a vision for the vehicle, fabrication of parts/systems, and much more. Along with the vehicle and team itself, I am also in charge of team logistics, such as planning, team meetings, scheduling, and securing team funds.One of our innovations in the design of Hybrid monocoque trikes is a suspension system utilizing elastomeric elements for compliance and damping, tailored specifically to our vehicle’s dynamic and structural requirements.
