WORK HISTORY
Co-founder @Metaesthetica
Los Angeles, CA, US
Metaesthetica is a research-driven artist collective that investigates how aesthetic experience emerges from complex, living, and computational systems. We develop experimental frameworks across artificial life, synthetic biology, computational design, and material fabrication to construct conditions in which form, behavior, and meaning co-evolve. Our work treats tools, materials, algorithms, and living matter as active agents within distributed creative systems, advancing new models of authorship, perception, and material intelligence. Our work produces installations, research artifacts, and hybrid digital-physical works.Rather than authoring static forms, we construct environments in which form, perception, and agency emerge through interaction among humans, machines, and matter.

ABOUT IASON PATERAKIS
Iason N. Paterakis is a California-based media artist and licensed Architect–Engineer (TEE/Technical Chamber of Greece) working on biodata-driven immersive installations at the intersection of neurobiology (brain organoids), cognitive science, media architecture, and creative AI. He develops hybrid systems where AI acts as a creative agent, shaping behavior, aesthetics, and cyber-physical structures across XR, real-time audiovisual environments, and large-venue immersive installations. He has held lead creative roles in major public works, including SIGGRAPH 2023’s Synaptic Time Tunnel -an Autodesk-funded, 130-foot large-scale interactive installation- and a nationwide projection-mapping initiative in Greece spanning 18 cities simultaneously. He also serves as Art Director for Brave New Work, an AI and urban projection symposium presenting internationally recognized media artists in public space, with talks featuring speakers from Google Quantum and Amazon.Recent research translates signals from neurobiology and brain organoids into real-time generative visuals, spatial sound, and responsive tangible architectures. This includes the Global Organoid Orchestra, linking labs internationally and using brain organoid activity as “conductors” for distributed media art performances and installations. He also contributes to an Antarctica research project exploring AI-driven countermeasures to the negative effects of isolated and extreme environments, with relevance to long-duration space missions. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Media Arts & Technology at UC Santa Barbara and is a member of transLAB (Prof. Marcos Novak). Since 2012, he has also been a researcher at the Transformable Intelligent Environments Laboratory (TIE Lab) at the Technical University of Crete. His work spans venues including Ars Electronica, SIGGRAPH, ISEA, IJAC, and the International Astronautical Congress, and he is an Artist-in-Residence at the Santa Barbara Center for Art, Science & Technology.
