About Ian Stark Grohsgal

Ian is currently completing his masters in Architecture with a concentration in real estate and finance. His studies lie at the intersection of design, finance, and tech with coursework at Harvard and MIT in managerial finance, real estate development, computer science and design studios. His interests in sustainable design, affordability, real estate development underpinned by technology have taken him to work in major cities across the U.S. including New York, San Francisco, Portland, and Philadelphia. His professional work has focused on housing and workplace design with an emphasis sustainability and affordability. Projects have included adaptive reuse at S2 Designs in Philadelphia; affordable multi-family and high-end single-family housing designs at Studio VARA in San Francisco; workplace consulting and design for nationally recognized companies in New York; conference planning and coordination for the Living Future Institute, responsible for the Living Building Challenge – the most ambitious sustainable building guidelines in the world. After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture, Ian was awarded from the Wendy Evans Joseph Traveling Scholarship to travel throughout Asia to study successful methods of integrating natural ecosystems with dense urban fabrics in Singapore, Malaysia, China, Vietnam, Hong Kong, and Japan. Additionally, he completed a Masters Class with Glenn Murcutt in Sydney, Australia in 2017. Ian is currently the MArch Program Class Representative at Harvard and was formerly the president for the architecture program at the University of Pennsylvania. He is now looking to leverage his background in design with his studies in tech and finance to work in real estate acquisitions and development post-graduation.
