As the UK\'s national academy for engineering, we bring together the country’s most eminent engineers from all disciplines to promote excellence in the science, art and practice of engineering. Since being elected in 2008, I have been asked to undertake numerous activities for the Academy, including: • A judge of the ERA Foundation Entrepreneurs Award and mentoring 2 individual prize-winners(20••••12), and subsequently judging the prestigious MacRobert Award (from 20••••15) • Chair of a committee to introduce an enterprise fellowship scheme making awards to entrepreneurial postdocs to help establish new spin-out business (20••••13) • Member of Engineering Policy Committee (20••••12) • Chair of the Enterprise Committee established in April 2013 to oversee the newly formed Enterprise Hub which has supported over 250 entrepreneurs to start up and scale their businesses by awarding £8.5million in funding and helping the new companies go on to raise more than £500million in follow on funding whilst employing more than a thousand scientists and engineers in new roles.
