ABOUT IAN MACLEOD
I read science fiction voraciously when I was a boy, 50 to 100 novels a year. I built things, sailboats, cars and bicycles and was fascinated with how things worked. That led me to product design, and I designed wheelchairs, IMAX glasses, military gear and medical equipment. George Lucas and ILM inspired me to work in visual effects. As an award winning 3D environments and asset artist, I have 20 years of experience working on 16 feature films and have been the lead 3D artist on 6 major series and a senior artist on 6 others. On 3 television series where I was given full responsibility for the large environment assets, I was able to contribute to award winning results, a personal Gemini for The Tudors, shared with my team, a Gemini nomination for Titanic, and an uncredited Canadian Screen Award nomination for Copper. I have also been fortunate to significantly contribute as a team member on numerous small team productions that garnered Emmy, BAFTA and Oscar awards. My value as a visual effects artist depends on the following- I\'m not a prima donna, I want to make things the best they can be - I have ideas and I can execute them - On a team I have your back - At a studio I am often “The Fixer”, rebuilding broken assets - I love building large complex environments and I build in history and stories Specialties Expert 3D modeling, hard surface and organic, architectural modeling, landscapes, foliage, spaceships, vehicles, weapons, lighting, texturing, large 3D environments, supporting matte painting departments, experienced with high level creatives, Maya, Photoshop, Clarisse.
