ABOUT IAN MILLER

My personal mission is to continue learning and sharing that knowledge with clients and peers in the building science community, and to make myself available to help those who need it when they need it.Working in the field of building science consulting engineering since 2004, I\'ve worked in many roles, both technical and managerial. I have a good understanding of building enclosure design and construction and apply that knowledge to help clients to build and maintain their buildings, whether they are low-rise residential or massive institutional landmarks. I have helped two mid-sized engineering practices to expand their firms as I\'ve progressed through my career in Toronto and Waterloo Region. I try to give back by volunteering with industry associations like CCI and OBEC, and with the Civil Engineering and Architectural Engineering programs at the University of Waterloo as a guest lecturer and technical advisor. I\'ve also written several articles for industry publications like Pushing the Envelope and Construction Canada, presented at trade shows and technical conferences in Canada and Europe, and chaired the Canadian Conference on Building Science and Technology.Along with my wife, we designed and constructed our family home in Kitchener in 2010 to a standard well above the current codes, and presently (2025) we\'re building a cottage country home to Passive House standards. I also love to share my passions of rock climbing, paddling, mountain biking, back-country camping, and travelling with my wife, daughter, friends, and anyone else who will indulge me.
