About Ian MacSpadden

I am an accomplished change management and technology innovation professional in the media and entertainment industry. I have decades of experience providing expertise and guidance to media companies. These have included; leading technology and facility migrations, the implementation of file and IP based workflows, improving content creation and the development of products for multi-platform distribution. I understand traditional broadcast and telecommunications engineering best practices, INFOSEC, video production, satellite/microwave/cellular RF systems and the newest IT based media delivery technologies. Most importantly I know how to leverage the benefits of each in product acquisition, creation, distribution and customer service.With deep experience within IT, production, news operations and engineering, I have a unique perspective on how all these elements, ideologies and priorities can be fostered to coexist, given the right structure, security and guidance. I have spent many years developing engaged talent and building and retaining robust teams of both creative and technical staff. I am able to leverage deep vendor and industry relationships from my Systems Integration work and being on the board of SMPTE and NETA.Writing about the media and telecommunications industry for TV Technology and the keeps me current and in touch with all facets of the business. In addition to my writing in technical journals, I am on the SMPTE Board of Editors and help review submissions for publication in their Motion Imaging journal. As chair of NETA\'s Cyber PLC, I keep engaged on the relevant issues around security in the M&E industry. I leverage my oral and written communication skills continuously through improving facility SOPs, creating webinars, giving presentations, and developing relationships with partners/clients.

   Recruited by the state’s largest PBS and NPR station group to build new teams (Engineering/RF/IT/Production) of talented creative and technology professionals who would further the organization\'s goals; ATSC 3.0, streaming, digital media, radio, Podcasting and 4K HDR production efforts. Lead the effort which built out and launched their first VR set, followed by an ATSC3/NextGenTV transition and provided guidance and project leadership in the design and digital architecture of their new broadcast TV/radio/streaming/production facility completed in 2025. Accomplished the FCC renewal efforts for their radio and TV station licenses, and won three FCC awards for new NCE FM radio station licenses to cover under-served portions of the state not currently covered by public media. Participant in University\'s Sr IT leadership team.
