About Ian Lesnick
Throughout my life, I have pursued roles as an \'educator,\' previously as the Community Educator/Organizer for ERASE Racism, as a Servant Leader Intern for the Children\'s Defense Fund Freedom Schools, and as a Resident Assistant at Stony Brook University. Today, I spend most of my day engaging students in developing Spanish conversation and communication skills while also continuing to work with ERASE Racism as their Program Coordinator, furthering their Education Equity work with Long Island students, educators, and administrators. As much as I love teaching, I also love learning – from my students and from others. In June 2022, I completed a one-year, intensive M.Ed. in Trauma Informed Education from Columbia College. In May 2020, I graduated from Stony Brook University with a BA in Linguistics and Spanish, an MA in Teaching Spanish, and three certifications to teach: Spanish (K-6 and 7-12) and TESOL/ENL (K-12)I am a firm believer that students are humans first – navigating their ever-changing lives while also meeting the cognitive demands of school. And, in order to effectively teach, we must get to know each of our students through combinations of Socio-Emotional Learning, Culturally Responsive Curricula, Trauma-Informed Teaching, and, as Dr. Sharroky Hollie phrases,\"outrageous love.\" As an Enneagram Type 2, I am passionate about helping others and dedicated to making our world a more equitable one to live in. Dismantling systems of oppression is paramount. As always, if there is any way I can support you, please feel free to reach out!
