WORK HISTORY
Managing Director @Suzian Ltd
Manchester, GB
Suzanne and Ian Millar set up Suzian as a platform to share, with employers, the story of their Employment Tribunal experience (Ian represented Suzanne at the Tribunal). The concept is to take what was a negative and extremely stressful ordeal (albeit with a successful outcome - value to Suzanne circa and \"flip\" the experience to raise awareness and provide interactive, thought provoking and enlightening training to leaders in a positive way of a real life case.Suzian provides procedural awareness training to employers who at some point in the future maybe faced with a redundancy, disciplinary or grievance situation. The seminar initially gives an overview to employers on the requirements of a compliant redundancy process and the effects of Protected Characteristics. Delegates are then invited to interrogate a detailed case study of Mrs S Millar v The Oak Trust (please use your search engine to get an overview of the case) looking at the evidence, the events that occurred, the Judgment reasons and exploring what actions a reasonable employer could have taken to rectify the defects in this accelerated redundancy and avoided the financial and reputational damage of the Employment Tribunal Judgment of unfair dismissal and unlawful discrimination on the grounds of Suzanne\'s age.

What starts as a minor procedural discrepancy escalates into a seriously defective process. Do we as the employer pause, reflect, identify and rectify those defects at the earliest opportunity? Or do we continue believing we are right and end up relying on the best lawyers and barristers to try (sometimes unsuccessfully) to get us out of the hole we are digging?I represented my wife, Suzanne, who was successful in her claim at the Employment Tribunal for Unfair Dismissal and Unlawful Discrimination on the grounds of her age as a result of a defective redundancy process. The value of the final settlement was circa and I set up Suzian Ltd as a platform to share, with employers, the story of our Employment Tribunal experience Mrs S Millar v The Oak Trust “flipping” the experience to raise awareness of the importance of following your policies and procedures and the crucial statutory requirement for meaningful and genuine consultation.Further information on the course and bookings can be found on our website and I will be grateful if you take a look.I personally deliver this unique training opportunity and case study which brings a real purpose to the subject giving employers a detailed insight of a defective process and the powerful message to heed your policies and procedures with integrity and empathy. If you get it wrong? Expect severe financial penalties, substantial legal costs and considerable reputational damage. Suzian can help your organisation so you\'ll get it right next time.
