ABOUT IAN LAKIN

I’m a qualified accountant (GCMA) spending 30 years honing my skills, experience and knowledge working for both the public sector (Post Office Limited) and the private sector (Provident Financial Group).I’ve had the opportunity to get involved in a wide variety of finance and non finance roles including financial and management accounting, budgeting, forecasting, risk, treasury, investment appraisal, business partnering, project management and tax compliance (SAO, VAT, CT, employment taxes). Extensive knowledge of budgeting and forecasting activities across the board, supporting non finance multi location operational teams pull together their CAPEX and revenue annual submissions including supporting documentation, to Group wide submission to the board.Extensive knowledge and experience in dealing with non finance multi location operational teams and presenting to them financial and non financial data, possessing the ability to get the message across first time. Previous roles that I’ve played within Post Office Limited have included Investment Appraisal Manager, where the primary focus was on cost modelling, profitability analysis including sensitivity analysis and Investment Appraisal tools and techniques, a Risk Management role that naturally focused on internal controls, good corporate governance and internal audit activities and a Billing and Debt Manager role that primarily focused on contractual pricing and billing activities.Business Partnering roles are at the core of my lengthy experience and this is an area where I excel and feel most comfortable.More recently I\'ve moved into Taxation, with exposure to VAT, Corporation Tax, Employment Tax, SAO and Stamp Land Duty. I played the lead role on Taxation for a newly introduced SAP system and have 15 years experience of SAP systems.Advanced excel user and SAP super user and been involved extensively in the Change process as both a Change Analyst and as a business lead.I marked the CIMA T4 scripts for Kaplan for over 7 years until the latest syllabus was introduced.A strong people manager who has lead teams and influenced people at both board and working level.Able to communicate effectively and flexibly to meet ever changing situation. Well organised and methodical with drive and determination to meet both business and personal related goals/objectives. Able to multitask in pressurised and demanding environments leading to a demonstrable record of commercial success that has embedded both time and cost savings in a number of business areas through process improvements.
