About Ian Harrison

I am a scientist with extensive experience in biodiversity conservation, with a focus on freshwater ecosystems and species. My background is in systematic ichthyology and have conducted research on marine and freshwater fishes from several parts of the world, including fieldwork in Europe, Central and South America, West and Western Central Africa, the Philippines, and the Central Pacific. Since 2008 I have focused my attention on the conservation of freshwater ecosystems, working with Conservation International (CI) and IUCN’s Species Survival Commission and Global Species Programme. I have assisted in grant-writing and fund-raising for multiple projects. I have authored over 80 papers or book chapters that are published or in press (see ResearchGate for more details), and have led several workshops at international conferences, presenting the work of both Conservation International and IUCN.
