ABOUT IAN GLOYNE-PHILLIPS

Marine environmental consultant with over 20 years of experience. Currently Head of Marine Environment for NIRAS in the UK, leading a team delivering expert services primarily around sustainable marine development. Project activity is global with a focus in UK, Scandinavia and SE Asia.I have worked in the offshore wind industry since the early including the majority of UK projects where my involvement ranges from project EIA and ecological monitoring to plan level HRA. I also have significant experience in relation to marine cables (telecoms and electricity inter-connectors), oil and gas and coastal infrastructure.Between 2003 and 2016 I was a founding director of Centre for Marine and Coastal Studies Ltd (CMACS), helping to develop the company into a leading supplier of marine and coastal environmental survey and consultancy services. Key technical areas of expertise include:• Environmental Assessment- marine ecological project and strategic level impact assessments for many major projects, including UK Round 4 offshore wind, Danish Energy Island North Sea, multiple international offshore wind farms and coastal infrastructure projects.• Survey & Monitoring- knowledge of a wide range of groups and habitats, notably fish, birds, benthic ecology and marine mammals, and related survey techniques• Protected Species & Habitats- managing risk in relation to project planning and permitting, e.g. underwater noise mitigation for marine mammals during offshore construction and habitat impact minimisation measures and compensation schemes.
