Appointed working peer by Prime Minister Theresa May in 2017. Currently serving as Deputy Speaker of the House of Lords. Served in each of the UK Government\'s territorial ministries (Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland) and laterally as the Government\'s Climate Minister. Over a dozen years spent in Brussels, laterally as Member of the European Parliament (2014 - 17). Leading MEP on energy, climate change and environment. Parliamentary rapporteur on reform of carbon markets (2016-17. Ranked 10th most influential MEP on environmental policy and 6th on energy by Votewatch; and 15th most influential individual in EU on Energy by Euractiv. Shadow rapporteur of 13 reports and opinions on energy and environmental legislation. Previous roles with BP, Scottish Refugee Council, Scottish Fishermen\'s Federation and University of Bristol. Serving Board member of the Schwarzenneger Institute, and President of the English-Speaking Union in Scotland. Hold a doctorate in geology from Bristol University and am a Fellow of the Geological Society.
