ABOUT IAN CAVANAGH

Ian Cavanagh’s latest leadership role has been heading up BP’s agenda to transform their Hydrocarbon business, to sustainably improve both performance and feel (employee experience). From piloting and experimenting with news ways of working, to designing and implementing the biggest Agility at scale transformation in the Energy Sector. A top to bottom operating model redesign with a Agility at its core, with already over 7,500 people mobilised into 700 operating squads across the business. Strong progress across several performance metrics already achieved within the businesses, and an ongoing transformation agenda to support continued improvements in organisational effectiveness and efficiency. Prior to this role, Ian was Global Head of Reservoir Development for over 7 years, accountable for the development and optimisation of BP’s reservoirs worldwide. Leading over 1300 geoscientists and engineers, key delivery included a strong resource and reserve replacement track record, managed declines ahead of expectation and industry leading technological advancements and deployments. Ian has gained extensive oil and gas leadership experience over a career of almost 30 years with BP. He has worked as a Chief of Staff to the Upstream CEO, Global Head of Petroleum and Completion Engineering, Vice President of Canada Gas operations, and several other leadership and engineering roles across the breadth of BP’s portfolio. All roles have been delivered and led through Ian’s strong passion and belief that creating the right environment for individuals and teams to excel in, creating the right feel, leads to extraordinary performance. Ian received a chemical engineering Masters degree from the University of Leeds (UK) in 1990. He is a Chartered Engineer, a member of the Institute of Chemical Engineers and the Society of Petroleum Engineers. He is a senior member of University of Texas Engineering Advisory Board.
