About Nayan Banik

I am a PhD candidate in Computer Science at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, working at the intersection of robotics, control, and AI/ML for autonomous systems. My doctoral research focuses on natural language–driven command and control of autonomous robotic systems, with a particular interest in mobile robotics and guidance/control of wheeled platforms. As a Graduate Research Assistant in the Biorobotics Lab at UWM, I help design, develop, and control robotic systems, from wheelchair-mounted assistive arms to four-Mecanum-wheeled mobile robot platforms. Before starting my PhD, I was an Assistant Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at Comilla University, Bangladesh and previously held lecturer roles at multiple universities. I have taught core CS courses, supervised undergraduate theses, contributed to curriculum development and accreditation activities, and served as a student advisor supporting both academic and personal development.I have published in venues such as Access, Applied Sciences, Springer book series, and international conferences spanning robotics, intelligent systems, and data science. I have also contributed to nationally funded projects and grants (including NIDILRR- and NSF-supported work) and serve as a reviewer for journals.Alongside academic research, I actively explore industry-relevant problems. I’ve earned multiple hackathon awards for solutions in digital twins, AI chatbots, schedule optimization, workplace safety, and cybersecurity, and have received competitive graduate fellowships and student awards recognizing both research and academic excellence.I am open to research roles in industry (Robotics/AI/ML—R&D or applied research on autonomous systems, control, and mobile robotics) as well as postdoctoral positions in robotics, autonomous systems, and human–robot interaction.
