Alongside this, I oversee our budget and portfolio, ensuring we invest wisely in the technologies and people that matter most.A big part of my role is developing our human capital, creating the right conditions for talented people to thrive. ABOUT IAIN SUTHERLAND
My career has been spent working where strategy, operations, and applied technology intersect, often in defence and government environments where complexity is unavoidable and outcomes matter. A significant part of my recent work has focused on the industry Defence interface, bringing suppliers closer to operators and shifting relationships from transactional to genuinely problem-driven. Alignment beats process every time.I have a deep working understanding of MoD capability and acquisition systems, and have helped shape pathways that take technologies from early concept to deployed capability. I’m interested in what happens after the pilot: adoption, integration, and sustained delivery.I do my best work when cutting through over-complication, simplifying systems, unblocking teams, and restoring clarity. That’s included translating real user needs into delivery plans, restructuring teams, simplifying governance, and supporting senior leaders through high-stakes decisions. My background spans frontline operational command, Chief of Staff roles, close collaboration with CTOs, and multinational operational planning.Recognised for: clarity of thought, structured analysis, looking after people, stakeholder alignment, and helping organisations move forward when the obvious path doesn’t exist.
