About Hussain Sayyed

I am a development sector professional with 11+ years of work experience across the public and social sectors, focusing primarily on community, women and children through the lenses of education and livelihood for informal sector, labor migration, ethical supply chains, anti-human trafficking and human rights. I graduated with Masters in Public Policy in 2017 from St. Xavier’s University of Mumbai, curating my experience to focus on Social Impact. Pre-MPP, I worked in the social impact space, concentrating on the domains of education and livelihood as a Gandhi Fellow with the NGO Piramal Foundation. I engaged with 600 students and 200 volunteers as part of his pilot project leading to increased participation in the classroom, assembly as well as extracurricular activities, in government schools of Mumbai during the fellowship. I strongly believe in the importance of a \'Head, Heart, Hand\' approach to working for social impact. My work with the Gandhi Fellowship taught me how to \'feel\' and \'do\', and my time while studying taught me how to \'think\' about the development sector. Gandhi Fellowship gave me a deeper understanding of grassroot challenges and opportunities to test out solutions. I felt the need to deepen my knowledge about the development sector and decided to continue with Piramal as a Program Lead. I curated content and implemented projects like BaLA(Building as Learning Aid) and SMC training to MCGM and TMC school Teachers, Principals and Beat Officers. I had short stints with Nirav Modi and Save The children India for two years in total. I worked as CSR Manager with Nirav Modi Foundation where I headed the Concept Upgradation Program that focused on Math and Science curriculum enhancement based on 21st century skills to improve the interest of students from 5th to 9th grade in Math and Science. While with STCI, I managed three district’s under Patang Program focusing on remedial education based on the MGML concept of Rishi Valley Pedagogy. Post that I was a part of Central Design Team of Piramal Foundation, I have consolidated my past experiences to work on designing experiences and processes for Gandhi fellowship. We also partnered with NITI AYOG on COVID Awareness content for SDDNN Abhiyan and trained district leads of 8 states. Currently working with QUEST in the Core Team of Senior Management in the overall strategic decision making and impact generation on the field for children from age 3-14 years though different programs. My personal interests include reading, music, food and rural travel.
