About Hunter Trawick
Back in 2015 I was pursuing a Computer Science degree in Utah but an opportunity arose to work at a SaaS startup, RentBuddy, so I dropped out of college. As part of a small core team consisting of a backend engineer, two co-founders, and myself, we built a comprehensive property management software from the ground up. Our platform featured rent collection, tenant applications, background checks, unit listings, maintenance requests, user messaging, and much more.Despite our hard work, RentBuddy eventually ran out of funds. I pushed on as long as I could before receiving another opportunity—to work under a programming mentor of mine who had been appointed CTO at Networkr. That summer, we raised over $600k in a seed round and developed an innovative app for in-person events with seating arrangements that fostered new connections while nurturing existing ones. After a year, when it became clear that revenue was still out of reach, I had to make a tough decision. I transitioned to freelancing for 9 months, a challenging period that forced me to grow rapidly. During this time, I learned invaluable skills in sales, client relationship management, technical communication, and consulting. This experience ultimately led to a role at Capgemini, where I served as a software consultant in Charlotte and New York for around three years, working on a variety of insurance projects. Then, in 2021, I received a call about an opportunity to rejoin the prop tech space—this time with RentRedi. It felt like a chance to revisit and refine the ideas I had first explored with RentBuddy, and I’ve been part of the journey ever since.Today, as an Engineering Team Lead, I continue to leverage the lessons learned from my startup days to adapt our software for scaling success.
