About Hunter Schmidt

The LEGO Robotics Club in Elementary School. That was where I first fell in love with Robotics. Using the customizable robot kit, I learned how to integrate sensors and software to enable the robot to follow lines on the floor, avoid walls, and eventually solve a simple maze. Curiosity led the way as well as the promise of a challenge as I wanted to explore what I could achieve with my little robot. It was the club I most looked forward to each week as a child. Now, as a fourth-year engineering major at Stevens Institute of Technology, I am concurrently pursuing both my Bachelors of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering and my Masters of Engineering in Robotics for graduation in the Spring of 2025. I have gained experience in 3D modeling and simulation (SolidWorks, ANSYS, Creo), coding (MATLAB, C++, Python), and optimization and data analysis (MS Excel) via various school projects and internships, including- Developing a robotic, two-degree-of-freedom ankle-foot-orthosis - Designing and coding an autonomous, obstacle-avoidance robot to reach desired check points - Prototyping a stabilizing camera mount for an autonomous drone - Coding a Dobot for pick-and-place movement of a ping pong ball - Creating a functional alpha prototype of a ping pong ball launcher - And more!I am excited to see where my career takes me after college and to continue to chase that naive curiosity and challenge my limits as I did all those years ago in the LEGO Robotics Club.P.S: I am a member of the 2023 NCAA National Championship Stevens Men\'s Volleyball team. I also enjoy weightlifting, playing chess, and watching movies.
