I am a multimedia journalist, editor, educator, and accredited Solutions Journalism trainer with a career spanning major newsrooms, community-centered media, and cross-cultural leadership in the United States and Latin America. My work sits at the intersection of journalism, civic engagement, and equity—always with a focus on strengthening trust, widening perspectives, and elevating underrepresented voices.As Executive Editor of The Fulcrum, I lead a national, cross-partisan newsroom dedicated to helping people understand how democracy works and how it can work better. Our mission is to expand civic imagination by bringing many viewpoints into conversation, not competition.As Publisher of the Latino News Network, I oversee a growing group of independent local and national outlets committed to reporting on the social determinants of health and democracy. Our journalism centers lived experience, community expertise, and solutions-focused storytelling.I have also served as an Adjunct Professor at Columbia College Chicago and the University of Washington, where I teach multimedia journalism and guide students in producing broadcast-quality newscasts. Teaching keeps me grounded in the next generation’s creativity, urgency, and sense of purpose.Across all of these roles, I’m known for building strong, trust-based relationships with stakeholders, partners, and teams. Transparency, collaboration, and shared goals shape my leadership style.As a Media Consultant, I’ve coached executives, newsrooms, and organizations through initiatives that drive audience growth, strengthen cultural competency, and align teams around mission and impact. I’ve been recognized as a change agent for my work redefining Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion practices in media environments.I’m also a seasoned talent coach with a long track record of developing on‑air journalists, producers, and newsroom leaders. My approach blends technical rigor, narrative craft, and a deep understanding of audience engagement.My expertise in Hispanic/Latino representation in media has led to extensive board service, including two terms as President of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists—an honor that reflects the trust and respect of colleagues across the industry.Beyond the newsroom, I’m a frequent author, speaker, and trainer, traveling nationally to lead conversations on journalism, democracy, leadership, innovation, inclusive storytelling, and solutions journalism.
