About H. Steve Leslie

After more than ten years working in the Banking and Insurance industries, I took the leap of faith to transition to a full-time teaching and learning environment in higher education at Arkansas State University (A-State). Since 2007, I have had the great opportunity to teach undergraduates and the distinct pleasure of supporting faculty with pedagogically sound teaching and learning solutions for their diverse student population. While serving as interim Director of the A-State Faculty Center (20••••15), I oversaw the support initiates for over 600 full and part-time faculty. Leveraging my teaching and business background, I increased the numbers of faculty accessing teaching and learning solutions through a multiplicity of professional development opportunities. These opportunities included, but were not limited to establishing an annual teaching and learning symposium attracting over 100 educators within and outside A-State.Embracing change and expanding my knowledge is an integral part of my philosophy. In 2015, I took an opportunity to teach full-time as an Instructor of Business Communication in the College of Business at A-State. Going back to teaching and conducting research proved to be such an exhilarating and personally rewarding experience. Being able to share “real-life” professional experiences across public and private sector organizations not only extends the classroom in a positive way, but also contextualizes students’ learning beyond the textbook. My experience of working in various multicultural settings provides a fertile environment to share best practices with students regarding various multicultural issues that they will likely face in the workplace. Sharing these experiences with students have proven invaluable as I teach and mentor the next generation of business leaders and educators.My professional experience along with being a lifelong learner makes me a valuable asset to those I have the opportunity to work with.
