ABOUT H SPENCER YOUNG
H Spencer Young (B.A. Visual Media, Minor, Cinema Studies, The American Univ, Wash, D.C) is a New York-based interdisciplinary artist, director, screenwriter, consultant, educator. His narrative thesis won the American U. juried film festival. He attended the Czech National Film School in Prague. Winter, 2022 and 2021 Spencer exhibited at Art Basel, Untitled Art, as well as Gallery Sector of Satellite Art Fair. Spencer has exhibited at Carriage Trade, NY, Chris Davison Gallery, Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, Abattoir Gallery, Lyles & King, and more. Concerned with a wide array of formal and post-conceptual challenges, Spencer’s studio practice is interdisciplinary, self-driven, research-based, focusing on subverting and interrogating conceptual and historical norms of image and object making. A pioneer in the content space, Spencer has directed, shot, written, edited blue-chip content since starting first Final Cut Pro-based studio ever in 2001. With founder Marcus Antebi, Spencer co-concepted and executed the brand identity for Juice Press from store 1: all films, photography, vehicle wraps, postcards, in-store displays, social campaigns, phone kiosks. Spencer\'s fashion filmmaking for couture house Honor was premiered by W Magazine; his art has directly inspired couture fashion, in multiple seasons of New York Fashion week; the most talked about dress at 2013 Emmys, worn by Zosia Mamet, was comprised of his 2012 work, “The New Sky.” Spencer provided story consulting for the \"16 and Pregnant\" pilot, leading to series green light under the wire. He edited Rashid Johnson\'s,\"Samuel in Space\" for Ballroom Marfa, he directed feature documentary,\"Swing State\" with Jason Zone Fisher and John Intrater, setting one-day attendance record at Cleveland Int\'l Film Fest. He directed, wrote, cut, shot, graded, consulted on global projects for Vogue, 17 Magazine, Scripps, CBS, HBC, Beyonce, Maybelline, Saks, McCann, New Balance, Buckler, PBS, Nike, Lord and Taylor, Food Network, Vice, Ogilvy, CFDA, Mykki Blanco, Paul Taylor Dance Company, GMC, Adidas, Sears, DVF, Gilt. Lastly, Spencer was one of 13 U.S. collegians chosen by presidential historian, Dr. Douglas Brinkley, for The Majic Bus, on which students visited 44 states, studying with Kurt Vonnegut, Hunter S. Thompson, Townes Van Zandt, Toni Morrison, Arthur Miller, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Rita Dove, Doris Kearns Goodwin, Hubert Selby, Jr, Ramblin\' Jack Elliot, Robert Hunter, Steven Soderbergh, Allen Ginsberg, Jim Carroll, William Kennedy, Melba Beals, and more.
