Hosam Ali is the Director of Structures and Natural Hazards Research for FM Global. The Research area has a unique group of scientists across engineering and earth and atmospheric sciences to provide comprehensive, practical and consistent answers to business challenges to evaluate severity, frequency and impact of hazards on site-specific and aggregate losses worldwide.Hosam joined FM Global in 1998 as a Senior Research Scientist and was appointed to his current position in 2006. Previously he served as an Assistant Professor in the civil engineering department at NYU-Poly, New York, and a Research and Development engineer with Structural Research and Analysis Corporation in Santa Monica, California. Hosam holds a Ph.D. degree from University of Southern California in Los Angeles, California, USA, in structural dynamics, a master’s degree in earthquake engineering from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt. He is a registered professional engineer in California and New York.
