ABOUT SEAMUS OREGAN

From St. John’s, Newfoundland, Seamus was raised in Goose Bay, Labrador. He studied politics at St. Francis Xavier University and University College Dublin, and marketing strategies at INSEAD, near Paris. He received his Master of Philosophy degree from the University of Cambridge, England, with a dissertation on Indigenous equity in large-scale natural resource development in Canada. While working for the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador in his twenties, Seamus was executive assistant to the Minister of Justice & Attotney General, Edward Roberts. He later became Senior Policy Advisor to Premier Brian Tobin. In he was named one of Maclean’s Magazine’s “100 Young Canadians to Watch” and has been twice nominated for a Gemini Award. In 2007, he became the first journalist to be named to Canada’s Top 40 Under 40. In 2012, Seamus was named Bell Let’s Talk Ambassador, alongside Clara Hughes, with the aim of removing the stigma of mental illness through greater communication and understanding. He moderated a forum on mental health and creativity at Rideau Hall, hosted by Her Excellency, Sharon Johnston. For 10 years, Seamus sat on the board of The Rooms – the home of the Provincial Art Gallery, Museum, and Archives of Newfoundland and Labrador. He is a founding board member of both The Smiling Land Foundation and The Company Theatre. Over the years, he has also served on the boards of World Wildlife Fund-Canada, The Walrus, Katimavik, and Canada World Youth. In 2015, Seamus was elected to represent the people of St. John’s South – Mount Pearl, and in 2017 he was appointed to Cabinet as the Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence. In January 2019, Seamus was appointed the Minister of Indigenous Services. Seamus was re-elected in October 2019 and was appointed Minister of Energy & Natural Resources. He later became Minister of Labour and Minister for Seniors. Before elected politics, he was a host of Canada\'s leading morning television news programme, CTV’s Canada AM, for ten years. Today, he is proudly Senior Business Advisor with Stewart McKelvey, the largest law firm in Atlantic Canada.
