WORK HISTORY
Procurement Director Ii Procurement Manager Contract Specialist V @Texas Health and Human Services
MANAGE & TRAIN INEXPERIENCED PURCHASERS TO BECOME SENIOR PURCHASERS AT THE STATE\\\\n\\\\nI’ve been a manager of others for most of my career.\\\\n\\\\nEarly in my career I was a manager at Procter & Gamble. I also managed staff in my own businesses for 8 years. And I was a Team Lead with the Comptroller’s Office.\\\\n\\\\nUnfortunately, in the State of Texas, a Team Lead is not an official management position even though you manage the day-to-day work of your team. I moved to HHSC for greater career opportunities.\\\\n\\\\nWithin just a few months of my start date, HHSC senior management gave me a true management position to head a group of Contract Specialists who were completely new to purchasing. I’m grateful to my management for giving me this chance.\\\\n\\\\nIn this role, I oversee about 20 major procurements per year that are handled by my staff. I also have the honor to train my staff in complex procurement concepts including Requests for Qualifications (RFQ), Request for Proposals (RFP) and Requests for Offers (RFO). I’m proud that many of my employees have outgrown my “newbie” team and are now senior purchasers at HHSC.\\\\n\\\\nFrom this experience, I realized that I love to train and talk about purchasing. This is why I’m on LinkedIn: I want to help other state employees learn more about purchasing and contract management, especially state and public procurement procedures. My training and insights are directed to employees wanting to be purchasers and contract managers and to those employees that interact with the state’s purchasing function.\\\\n\\\\nOf course, I won’t be discussing any specific contracts or procurements because of confidentiality. Also I want to be clear that these thoughts are my own and are general in nature, and I don’t speak on behalf of Texas HHSC or any other state agency.\\\\n \\\\n\\\\n \\\\n \\\\n\\\\n \\\\n
