As a Senior Energy Consultant at Arup, I support the Sustainability, Energy, and Building Services groups in our aim to develop a truly sustainable built environment. These groups provide a wide range of services, including: building and community design and engineering; estimation of energy & resource efficiency potential; community or building scale energy engineering; integrated systems planning; cost & benefit analysis; analysis of building carbon footprint; climate change-related policy and services; sustainability assessments of projects in the built environment; and sustainability codes and standards development and implementation. Although my role varies depending on the project, I am generally responsible for the following: design and assessment of new buildings; analysis of energy and resource flows; assessment of built environment greenhouse gas (CO2) emissions; coordination of sustainability assessments and benchmarking of building projects, portfolios, campuses, and cities; development of climate impact mitigation strategies; and integrated systems planning.
