About Hilary Viens

Hilary Viens is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) with over 20 years of experience in social work, public health, and community leadership. She currently serves as the Deputy Executive Director at Community Education Group (CEG), where she combines clinical expertise with public health leadership to address health disparities in Appalachia. Her leadership roles include Director of Programs and Director of Operations, overseeing internal systems and financial operations for non-profits addressing decarceration, homelessness, substance use disorder, and HIV/AIDs. Hilary has led innovative initiatives such as the Forensic Assertive Community Treatment (FACT) pilot, which integrated criminogenic risk management with mental health and substance use treatment. Trained as a psychotherapist, Hilary spent both her undergraduate and graduate careers focused on interpersonal violence and violent offenders and completed her thesis work on treatment interventions for perpetrators of violence. As a licensed social worker she has worked in many settings providing crisis stabilization, therapeutic services, supervision, and community advocacy. Hilary earned a Master of Social Work degree from Smith College and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, Sociology, and Anthropology from Antioch College. A member of the LGBTQIA+ community, Hilary is passionate about decarceration, anti-racism, wealth distribution, and anti-urgency culture. In her free time she hangs out with her three dogs, tends to plants and tries to learn to be a better cook. She find calmness in listening to music, meditating daily and being by the water.
