How is your business performing – do you know? Accounting is unglamorous, a bit of a bore – isn’t it? Accounting systems sort themselves out – right? As a business owner you need to know your financial position. This applies whether you are managing a multi-million turnover business or following your dream and setting up on your own. Without accurate and timely financial information a business is working in the dark. With it a business can move forward confidently – or at least armed with the facts! Of course this has never been more relevant than today, amid the uncertainty of the times we are living through and with the new norm of working from home, and managing business, finance and relationships remotely. Business owners and managers are increasingly demanding in their expectations of their accounting software. The days of clients turning up at their accountants once a year – or maybe 4 times a year if the VAT is due- with a bag of receipts and some crumpled bank statements, are rapidly receding – and with the increasing requirement from HMRC for electronic submissions the need to keep everything up to date on appropriate software will only increase. Banks are more demanding, finance more difficult to come by, markets more competitive. The business which can show it has its financial information at its fingertips will be the business to make progress and grow. Since qualifying as a Chartered Accountant I have specialised in systems and accounting software, with involvement at all stages of installation, training and day to day use. I have worked with clients in the private, public, not-for-profit and education sectors. In particular I love the opportunities which have opened up with the adoption of cloud technology, and this is at the heart of everything I do.
