About Hilary Cooper

Dr. Cooper has worked in the field of Psychology for over thirty years. She started her career working with traumatized families affected and infected with HIV/AIDS and became a trusted advisor and presenter on children\'s mourning, childhood trauma, and developmental implications of chronic illness on children. Clinical experiences at Mount Sinai Medical Center, New York Presbyterian Hospital, Boston Children\'s Hospital, NYC Health and Hospitals/Bellevue, City University Counseling Center and research positions at Weill-Cornell and Tufts University contributed to Dr. Cooper\'s early professional development. After completing her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at City University, with a concentration in Child/Adolescent Therapy and research focused on Maternal Mental Health, Dr. Cooper\'s training continued as a clinical intern at Barnard College\'s Rosemary Furman Counseling Center and as a post-doctoral therapist at Westchester Jewish Community Services in Yonkers at The Martin Luther King Elementary School. Dr. Cooper has been in private practice in Westchester County, New York, for over a dozen years where she treats children as young as 4 years of age, adolescents, young adults, and adults experiencing Anxiety, Depression, and a variety of psychological difficulties. Psychodynamic Psychotherapeutic Theory and the emphasis on therapeutic relationship with patients remains to be at the center of her clinical work. She has gone on to pursue training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy at The Beck Institute, SPACE training and Parent Management Training at Yale Child Study Center, and Dialectic Behavior Therapy Training through Cognitive Behavior Consultants. Special Education has also been a focus of Dr. Cooper\'s Education at The Backstreet School of Education and Tufts University, giving her a particularly effective perspective when working with children.Dr. Cooper is now the founder of Clear Mind Psychology, P.C, a small group practice in Rye, New York. She is also a popular public speaker for local school districts, independent schools and parenting groups on topics related to parenting and child/adolescent neuropsychological and social/emotional development.
