About Hibah Hammad

I am dedicated to working with and advocating for others. My experiences in grassroots organizing, and legislative advocacy have made clear to me the power of community, leadership, and creating change through an intersectional lens. Whether I was helping victims of domestic violence LASO through tenant and family law, empowering students of color to advocate for policy changes with OSA, or assisting houseless individuals and mutual aid groups through OSPIRG, every change was achieved through collaboration, education, patience, and openness. Through this, I have found a passion for creating progressive change and improving the world around me, while continuously staying open to valuable perspectives and opportunities for connection. As I embark on my law school journey at CUNY Law, with focuses on public-interest law, I am currently working in the Oregon State Capitol as a Legislative Aide for Senator Gelser-Blouin. Through her experience in human services, education, and judiciary legislation, I am learning how to become a better advocate for our most vulnerable populations. In addition to learning skills that will aid me as a lawyer, I am learning how to both assist folks 1-1 while in tandem understanding what legislative pressures and actions I can take to change things on a systemic level. I am excited to see where law school and further experiences in the legal/political field will take me, and look forward to putting my morals and desire to aid my communities at the forefront of my journey.
