About Heather Hazelwood
Law was not my initial career path, despite my father’s encouragement during college. I spent nearly a decade in the social and human services non-profit sector, working to foster kindness, compassion, connection, and justice. These roles helped me develop strong people skills that clients often find lacking in attorneys. At some point along the way, I realized that I really liked (and was good at) being a problem-preventer. Different from a problem-solver, a problem-preventer excels at identifying potential (or likely) oncoming problems and creating, facilitating, and implementing solutions to ensure those problems don’t materialize, or at the very least, are minimized. Preventing problems in the social and human services sector is challenging, as most resources focus on solving existing issues. Seeking a greater focus on prevention, I followed my father’s advice and attended law school. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 2011, I joined a small firm in Madison, where I handled estate planning and probate matters, as well as family and business law cases. Moving to North Carolina in 2015 gave me the perfect opening to take my skill set and try something just a little bit different. In 2016, I founded Ampersand Law to create an inclusive, transparent firm built on integrity and focused on each client’s needs. I have since assisted over 600 clients in estate planning and probate, and I look forward to working with you.If you’re curious about my credentials, you can connect with me here on LinkedIn.
