5 years ago I started an IT Department after spending many years working in a variety of design / technology related companies. I saw on several fronts that change brought about by technology on many levels was possible. The idea was simple, combine technologies and use data effectively. In this case construction in the making and to use the results to close the gaps of communication between site and head office, between different departments within the company, and to evidence the quality of work to existing and new clients thereby influencing the management structure and coursing the direction of the company. The results of the combinations were interesting. What seems like diverse daily technologies when combined enveloped naturally into other sectors and departments and in themselves became additional services to offer. The first stage was to internalise technology in all its forms. This meant taking take back control of everything digital from web-page brochure case studies CV design, to the management to networks, data security, and server use and allocation, security groups, agreed procedures and structures. The second phase was diversifying the flow of data from both physical and digital locations, all the while securing company data within traditional forms, typical of any IT Department. The results were that the nature work, that of the final product, became collectively representational. On a practical level this was blending of skills, joining of technologies, merging platform outcomes, managing individuals of technical skill, in itself creative, with those who are creative and technical.
