ABOUT TIMOTHY LEHNEN

I believe in an empathetic approach to leadership, focused on putting autonomy, ownership, and responsibility directly in the hands of individual contributors. My career has been focused on complex technology problem-solving for a global open-source community with collaboration within my own organization and between for-profit companies, non-profit organizations, and individual contributors worldwide.I believe in the fundamental importance of centering marginalized communities and experiences, both because it is the right thing to do, and because it strengthens teams with lived experience, knowledge, and perspectives that are too often shut out of the conversation.I have worked with remote teams for almost my entire career. Since 2008, I have only worked in a traditional office environment for 18 months, the rest has been managing high-functioning, passionate teams fully distributed and fully remote. It\'s my firm belief that the transition to remote work requires the best of leadership and management, exposing where poor practices were propped up by in-person micromanagement and clock-watching. I am also a proud author. My passion is creative writing, and I believe that fiction provides a venue for personal, moral, and societal growth.\"Fantasy is escapist, and that is its glory. If a soldier is imprisoned by the enemy, don’t we consider it his duty to escape?[.] If we value the freedom of mind and soul, if we’re partisans of liberty, then it’s our plain duty to escape, and to take as many people with us as we can.\"- Ursula K. Le Guin
