Dr. James Hersey is a Principal Research Scientist in RTI’s Washington, DC, office with more than 30 years of experience in the design and analysis of large national surveys and evaluation research projects. A developmental psychologist, expert in research design and applied statistical methods, he leads major evaluations of social marketing and public education campaigns. For the past 12 years, he has served as project director of three program assessment contracts with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), under which he successfully managed 50 quick-turnaround evaluation tasks totaling $25 million. He has directed a series of evaluation projects of health communications and social marketing programs. These projects have included an evaluation of the cost-effectiveness of public education for adult immunization; an evaluation of programs designed to prevent complications associated with diabetes; and evaluations of national and community-based public social marketing campaigns in nutrition, HIV prevention, cardiovascular health, and prevention of tobacco use.
