Administer and manage the operations of the City of San Diego Park and Recreation Department. The City of San Diego Park and Recreation Department is one of the nation’s largest municipal park and recreation agencies, and serves millions of residents and visitors each year. The Department oversees and manages over acres of parkland and open space; which includes over 400 parks, 56 recreation centers, 13 public swimming pools, 26 miles of oceanfront shoreline, 27 miles of Mission Bay shoreline, 110 acre Cemetery, 55 maintenance assessment districts, and 5 golf courses. The Park system offers miles of hiking trails in numerous open space parks, two fishing piers, skate parks, dog off leash areas, therapeutic recreation services, aquatic programs, and a variety of classes, programs and events. A few of the Department’s more notable facilities include Balboa Park, home of the world famous San Diego Zoo; the 4,600 acre Mission Trails Regional Park, Mission Bay, and the award-winning Torrey Pines Golf Course home of the PGA annual Farmers Insurance Open; and selected to host the 2021 US Open Golf Championship.
