ABOUT HERMAN CALLEJA
Associate Environmental Designer at chapmanbdsp & Course Tutor at the Architectural Association, Sustainable Environmental Design programme. Environmental Designer chapmanbdsp I am excited to collaborate with design teams, advising from Concept Stage to Detailed Design, regarding daylight, lowering operational energy demand, occupant and pedestrian thermal comfort and form-finding. In my time at chapmanbdsp I had the opportunity to collaborate with various architectural practices including Foster+Partners, RSH+P, ZHA and Grafton Architects on residential and non-residential projects. At chapmanbdsp we encourage the integration of Architecture, Environmental Design and supporting services to achieve bespoke high-performing solutions. In our approach we first target to reduce energy demand and increase the potential and application of passive design. Subsequently we recommend suitable active systems and renewables to offset the remaining energy demand. SED MArch/MSc programme Course Tutor Architectural Association As a SED course tutor at the AA I work in collaboration with other tutors to deliver workshops on different software that are used in the programme and assist students in tutorials on their design research projects especially the MArch dissertation. Talented students from different countries enrol for the SED programme every year. The design research undertaken aims at achieving user comfort and enhanced environments in response to the challenges encountered in different urban conditions. Students research architectural solutions that respond to climate, occupant behaviour and space functions through the use of analytical work and form-finding. Specialities: Parametric Environmental Design Both at the AA and at chapmanbdsp I research the potential of applying environmental design principles in a parametric design environment such as Grasshopper, to inform design decisions. Main interest: Daylighting, Solar Analysis and Thermal Comfort.
