ABOUT HERMALA HAILEGABRIEL

As I grew up, I became aware of the intense stigma surrounding psychiatric needs within immigrant communities. Having seen the consequences of neglecting one\'s psychological well-being, I became passionate about addressing this issue through public health. I became fascinated with the intersection of social psychiatric epidemiology and how other environmental and socio-economic factors, in addition to the lack of psychiatric care, contribute to chronic and infectious diseases. I am particularly interested in how these factors narrow healthcare access for marginalized communities – hence igniting my desire for a career in public health.
