ABOUT HENRY HENRY VARNEY

I am a perceptive and influential, commercially focused business leader, consultant and board advisor with 15 years’ C-suite leadership experience, helping to improve efficacy and customer engagement for one of the UK’s largest building societies and a FTSE 125-equivalent group. My detailed understanding of business drivers in the highly regulated, technology-driven financial services sector is complemented by the proven ability to improve business performance and ensure sustainable growth, shaping and refining highly effective long-term strategy.Currently, I am providing advisory and consultancy services to the leadership of building societies, fintechs and other financial services firms. In my previous role as the Chief Operating Officer for the Skipton Building Society, in over 15 years as a member of the Executive Committee, I oversaw a period of sustained growth in clients and assets, led a substantial business transformation with a focus on digitisation and improvements to operational efficiency, established more robust cybersecurity, and raised levels of satisfaction among both customers and employees.My non-executive experience includes the position of Board Chair for the mortgage business, Amber Home Loans, which I guided through the challenging period following the global financial crisis, and NED on Jade Software Corporation, a NZ Fintech, where I chaired the Audit and Risk Committee for Jade, with spin offs listed on the New Zealand stock exchange.ACA-qualified, with a decade of experience in technology advisory at KPMG, my broad technical skill set includes deep expertise in transformation, technology and finance, with a strong focus on the commercial drivers of business success that enables me to deliver impactful change. I have helped firms to navigate and address regulatory challenges, and my leadership experience at fintech firms spans all stages of the life of a company, from startup, to listing and growth, restructure and orderly wind down. Throughout my career, I have focused on the people aspects of the business, creating an award-winning culture and environment that is recognised as best in class, while maintaining a strong focus on customer service and improving customer experience.
