About Henry Mazaika

I am a maker. I don\'t limit myself to designing, fabricating, assembling, electronics, or coding—I like them all! Though I\'m currently working on my CS degree at Virginia Tech, during breaks I use my skills (or get new ones) to help companies keep their customers happy. For example, at CSI, many customers did not want to purchase a battery chiller with their electric vehicle (EV). While it is an optional purchase, it can improve battery life & maintain battery SOC. Without a chiller, your battery\'s health may deteriorate much more quickly, reducing the range of the vehicle, which is crucial to an EV OEM. To convince our customers to purchase the chillers, I designed, built, wired, and coded a battery-chiller test setup using a programmable logic controller (PLC). A wide array of different kinds of data was recorded, including temperatures, voltage, current, and flow rate (of the coolant). I believe that learning is a continuous process, and if I don\'t know something or have a particular skill set—I will get it. For example, at Virginia Tech Astrobotics, a club that competes in NASA\'s Lunar Robotics Competition, we program exclusively in C++ and Python, using the ROS2 framework. I had never used any of these things before. Unfazed, I adapted and taught myself the skills I needed to use these tools to control our test bot, our prototypes, and our final robot.
