The VP Academic of the African Studies Students’ Association (ASSA) plays a crucial role in addressing academic and curricular concerns of the Arts Undergraduate Society of McGill University (AUS). Acting as a liaison between the Faculty of Arts and the AUS, the VP Academic collaborates closely with the President on educational and program-related matters. This includes actively participating in the program committee alongside professors to promote and enhance the African Studies program. Additionally, the VP Academic oversees the UHURU Journal, managing its editorial team and ensuring the seamless submission and publication of essays, articles, and artwork that celebrate African realities and culture. Through these responsibilities, the VP Academic fosters a vibrant and diverse academic community, advancing the appreciation of African studies within the university.

ABOUT HENRY MAIDOH
Henry Maidoh is a youth leader and United Nations advocate with a strong academic and practical foundation in human rights, global governance, and development. He is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Honours Political Science with a major in International Development Studies at McGill University, where his studies focus on international law, conflict resolution and peacebuilding, and diplomacy.Henry has gained hands-on experience in policy research and advocacy through his internship with the Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) in Accra, Ghana, where he contributed to governance and social accountability research, supported high-level ECOWAS policy dialogues, and authored comparative analyses on regional integration in the Sahel. Beyond academia and professional experience, Henry is deeply engaged in youth leadership and multilateral advocacy. He serves as Public Relations Coordinator and Head Delegate for the McGill Youth Advisory Delegation, representing youth voices at the United Nations. In these roles, he has advocated directly at the United Nations Economic and Social Council on issues including refugee inclusion, misinformation, and global cooperation.Henry is also Vice President of Academics for the African Studies Students’ Association at McGill and Director of the UHURU: The McGill Journal of African Studies, a scholarly platform dedicated to celebrating the scholarship, creative expression, and unique identities of Africa’s global communities.His contributions have been recognized with an Allan A. Hodgson Arts Internship Award. Henry Maidoh continues to advance global engagement, youth empowerment, and human rights advocacy, and plans to pursue a career in international law with a focus on human rights and global advocacy.
