Responsibilities include experimental design and analysis for silicon photonic circuits at infrared and visible wavelengths, design and assembly of fiber to free space builds, state-of-the-art packaging of fiber array units with photonic integrated chips (PICs), modular object oriented programming for die-scale automated testing of PICs (all written in Python), die selection of photonic chips for packaging, research and development trials. Data processing techniques include, but are not limited to, image processing of scatter from waveguide to determine loss, curve fitting of data to extract experimental constants, etc. Programming for experiments includes instrument connectivity and controls through python of electrical power supply units, optical power meters, spectrum analyzers, digital oscilloscopes, custom in-house microcontrollers, among other technical equipment. Other responsibilities include lab management, functional lab design and planning, occasional mechanical design sketches, inventory of technical components, and coordination between disciplines of system level assemblies.
