The National HIV Behavioral Surveillance (NHBS) system is a CDC-funded project conducted in 21 cities in the United States, including Newark MSA. The purpose is to measure HIV prevalence, HIV risk behaviors, HIV testing behaviors, and exposure to prevention services over time among persons at high risk for infection. NHBS has three cycles focusing on different groups: men who have sex with men (MSM), injection drug users (IDU), and heterosexuals at risk of HIV infection (HET). Information from NHBS guides prevention and HIV counseling and testing services in Essex County, Union County and Morris County. It also helps guide and improve overall HIV/AIDS surveillance, and provide a better understanding of trends in HIV infection in our MSA and throughout the United States. NHBS Is the CDC most comprehensive data system among populations at highest risk for HIV in the United States.I supervised and managed a staff of interviewers/recruiters and HIV testing personnel for the National HIV Behavioral Surveillance project a venue-based and respondent driven research study. The New Jersey State Dept. of Health, Division of AIDS Prevention and Control funded the study under a Grant from the U.S. Center Disease Control. Our high-risk groups were men who have sex with men (MSM) 2003, 2004, 2008,2011. and 2014,2017. Injecting drug users (IDU) 2003, 2005, 2009,2012,2015. High risk heterosexuals 20••••07, 2010, 2013, 2016 (HRH) and interviews took place in our offices, Mobile unit, or venues frequented by these groups.Supervision of all activities of teams conduct in the process of recruiting, interviewing,HIV testing, scheduling of appointments, payment of incentives, and quality assurance Recruiting, hiring, training of staff, and reviewing of interviews and HIV test completed by staff. Conducted formative research to find, and evaluated venues or areas of interest and establish relationship with key informants and community stakeholders to garner support of our efforts
